A 5 day course on Leadership Dynamics for Senior Women Leaders, ended successfully at the Kenya Development Learning Centre (KDLC). The course was officially closed by Dr. Margaret Kobia, Director, KIA on Friday 26, February 2010. In her closing speech she challenged the participants on issues of leadership. “Leaders finish what they start”, she said. She added that leaders align themselves with the goals of the organizations they lead. It is not about positions, its about influencing decisions so as to achieve organizational goals. Leadership is how you influence other people to achieve goals. She challenged the participants to transfer the knowledge gained from the course to their work places. Also present was Mrs. Njambi Muchane, Director KDLC. The course drew a total of 49 participants: 34 from Tanzania and 15 from Kenya, from the public and private sector as well as non government organizations. Elements of the course include navigating the Unique Environment and Roles for Women Leaders, Nurturing women leaders and Self Assessment of Leadership Styles. The course was conducted via video conferencing at KDLC, which is within KIA. The Kenyan participants were at the KDLC, while their Tanzanian counterparts were in the DLC in Tanzania. Video conferencing is a communications technology that integrates video and voice to connect remote users with each other as if they were in the same room. Each user needs a computer, webcam, microphone, and broadband internet connection for participation in video conferencing. Users see and hear each other in real-time, allowing natural conversations not possible with voice-only communications technology.
