Preamble Women have in the recent past been called upon to take senior leadership positions in the Public Service. The recent directive by his Excellency the President echoed this during his address to the public on the past Kenyatta Day celebration, that 30% of all public positions be reserved for women. The statistics imply that if women are to take up more leadership positions, they need to be empowered. Affirmative action taken by the government has to be accompanied by training and development to ensure that the women deliver results. It has been recognized that in order to achieve sustained improvement in performance and service delivery, there must be effective leadership at the forefront of any change effort. this is because it is the top managers who give vision and direction. It is therefore necessary to develop and enhance leadership competencies especially at senior levels of Government. The course provides an unparalleled opportunity for women to develop practical leadership skills, as well as to benefit from the breadth of knowledge and experience fo their peers within a range of public. Target Group Women managers (Job group P and above) in the public service. Learning Objectives On completion, the participants should be able to: - Gain an honest picture of your strengths and development needs, which will enable you to develop
- the leadership skill of giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Learn how to lead with authenticity, clarifying your personal values and how they fit within the organizational culture
- Make new choices for investment of personal energy based on an examination of tradeoffs and rewards
- Learn how to overcome the biases and discomforts associated with exercising political know how
- Develop strategies for using power and influence more effectively within the organisation
- Participate in half-day outdoor exercise (Experiential Learning), which allows you to practice the new behaviours you have learned.
